Privacy Policy
The Dietitian Edit | Last updated: 4 July 2026
Our Commitment to Your Privacy
At The Dietitian Edit, your privacy matters deeply to us. When you work with us in a 1:1 nutrition counselling relationship, you share personal and sensitive information — and we treat that trust with the utmost care. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and your rights.
We comply with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), including the additional protections that apply to health information.
What Information We Collect
To provide safe, personalised nutrition counselling, we may collect:
- Personal information: your name, contact details (email, phone, address), date of birth, and emergency contact details.
- Health and sensitive information: your medical history, current health conditions, medications and supplements, dietary habits and preferences, weight and body measurements (where relevant and with your consent), pathology or test results you choose to share, mental health information relevant to your care, and referral information from other health practitioners.
- Payment information: billing details necessary to process payments. Card payments are processed securely by Stripe; we do not store your full card details.
- Website information: if you use our website, we may collect standard analytics data (such as pages visited and device type) through Google Analytics.
How We Collect Your Information
We collect information directly from you — through intake forms, consultations (in person, by phone, or via video), email correspondence, and follow-up questionnaires. With your consent, we may also receive information from your GP or other health practitioners involved in your care.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information only to:
- Provide you with nutrition counselling and develop your personalised recommendations
- Monitor your progress and adjust your care
- Communicate with you about appointments, follow-ups, and resources relevant to your care
- Process payments and maintain business records
- Communicate with other health practitioners involved in your care, only with your consent. An authority to release information must be completed.
- Meet our legal and professional obligations
We will never sell your information, share it with third parties for marketing purposes, or use your personal story or details in any public material (including testimonials or case studies) without your explicit written consent.
Confidentiality
Everything you share with us in your counselling sessions is treated as strictly confidential. Your information is accessed only by the registered dietitian involved in your care.
There are a small number of situations where the law requires or permits disclosure without your consent. These are rare, and include:
- Where we are legally required to do so (for example, by a court order or subpoena)
- Where there is a serious and imminent risk to your life or safety, or the safety of another person
- Where disclosure is otherwise required or authorised by Australian law
Outside these limited circumstances, your information stays between us.
How We Store and Protect Your Information
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, including:
- Client records stored in encrypted, password-protected systems
- Paper records (if any) kept in locked storage
- Access limited to authorised personnel only
- Secure, encrypted platforms for telehealth consultations
We retain client health records for a minimum of 7 years from your last consultation (or, for clients under 18, until they turn 25), in line with Australian health record-keeping requirements. After this period, records are securely destroyed or de-identified.
Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of information that is inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete
- Withdraw consent for how your information is used or shared (where consent is the basis for that use)
- Make a complaint about how your information has been handled
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The most current version will always be available on our website, with the date of the last update shown at the top.
